Event Information
The Scottish Designathon is a full-day collaborative design event taking place from 10:00am–4:00pm at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, co-hosted by the Scottish Engineers Without Borders (EWB) university societies. The event is free to attend and open to students of all disciplines and year levels; while the design brief is targeted towards engineering students, participants from any degree programme are welcome.
Participants may register individually and be placed into a randomised team from their university, or register as a team of up to five members (team registrations should complete the form once). Teams will be provided with a design brief on the day, develop a solution within the set time, and deliver a PowerPoint presentation to a panel of judges. Lunch will be provided free of charge, with dietary requirements accommodated where indicated on the registration form. The event venue is fully accessible.
For any accessibility needs, disability-related support, or dietary queries, participants are to contact their individual university EWB society. A laptop or tablet is strongly recommended to support design work during the event.
This event is the qualifier for the Engineers Without Borders UK Championship, with the 2026 Finals taking place on Saturday 7 March at the University of Birmingham. One team from each participating university chapter will qualify to attend. Participants may also choose to attend without competing for a qualifying place; however, teams registering competitively must be able to attend the championship in Birmingham. Please do not register as a competitive team if you are unable to attend the finals. Information regarding support for travel costs should be discussed with your local university EWB chapter. To attend the finals, participants must be members of their university’s EWB society.
